A career civil servant, Kamran Ali Afzal has held a range of administrative and policymaking positions over the past thirty years, including assignments with the provincial governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, the Federal Government, and the Prime Minister’s Office. Prior to his appointment as Cabinet Secretary in August 2023, he has served as Director General, Civil Services Academy, Finance Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, Secretary Industries & Production to the Government of Pakistan, and Chief Secretary to the Government of the Punjab. His alma maters include: Aitchison College, Lahore, where he completed his O and A-Levels; Government College, Lahore, where he studied for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics; and the University of Melbourne, from where he received a master’s in public policy and management, and later a PhD in political economy.
